From Angola to New York: Atlas of Humanity Exhibition

There are moments in photography that feel almost unreal. Moments when an image created thousands of kilometres away finds its place on an international stage.

I am deeply honoured to be part of the Atlas of Humanity Exhibition 2026, taking place from 26–28 June 2026 at One Art Space in Manhattan.

My selected photograph portrays a child from the Ovahakaona community in Angola. During my travels through southern Angola, I had the privilege of meeting people whose traditions, strength and sense of identity left a lasting impression on me. The portrait is more than a photograph to me; it is a quiet encounter built on trust, curiosity and mutual respect.

Photography has the power to transcend borders. It allows us to connect with people we may never meet in person and invites us to look beyond stereotypes and assumptions. Through this image, I hope viewers in New York will pause for a moment and recognise the individuality, dignity and humanity reflected in the child’s gaze.

Being included in this exhibition by Atlas of Humanity means a great deal to me. It is a reminder of why I photograph people and cultures around the world: to preserve stories, celebrate diversity and foster understanding through visual storytelling.

If you happen to be in New York, I would be delighted if you visited the exhibition.
